Suspected fraudster steals POS machine from shop in Niger State and withdraws N293,000 to play bets

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man who stole a POS machine from a shop and withdrew N293,000 which he used to play sporty bet in Mokwa Local Government Area of the state.

 

Spokesperson of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, May 6, 2024, said the suspect, Ahmed Mohammed replaced the stolen POS machine with a faulty one in his possession.

 

According to the PPRO, the suspect confessed to having copied the password after observing the POS attendant.

 

 

“On 04/05/2024 at about 2100hrs, a complaint was also received at Mokwa Div that a POS machine was stolen at Kainji junction,” the statement read.

 

“During investigation, one Ahmed Mohammed 20yrs of Efu-Goro area of Mokwa was arrested on 5/5/2024 in connection with the crime. During interrogation, he confessed that he went to the POS shop and stole the machine, while he replaced it with a faulty one in his possession.

 

“He later withdrew #293,000 from the machine, having observed the attendant and copied the password. He also claimed that he used the money to play sporty bet.”
