Sola Faleye, the Personal Assistant to the late Access Bank boss Herbert Wigwe, has recounted how he missed being on the ill-fated chopper that claimed the lives of Herbert Wigwe, his wife, Chizoba Wigwe, their first son, Chizzy Wigwe and businessman, Abimbola Ogunbajo on February 9.
While speaking at the night of tribute in honour of Late Wigwe in Lagos state on Wednesday, March 6, Faleye said they all left Nigeria for London and afterwards boarded a flight to Palm Springs airport in California, from where they were supposed to fly to Vegas via a chopper.
He said during the flight from London to Palm Springs, he had approached his boss and asked if he was comfortable with flying a chopper in the U.S at night, and his boss answered;
‘’This is America, they have a navigation system for flying Chopper at night”
He said he went back to his seat afterwards. Faleye said they all landed at Palm Springs airport in California and they were told that the chopper would not be able to take everyone and their luggage. Faleye said he offered to travel with the luggage to Vegas by road while Wigwe, his wife, son and Mr Ogunbajo boarded the chopper to the same destination.
Faleye said during the trip to Vegas, he tried to call his boss and the others on the chopper, but none of the calls went through. It was later that he got the sad news that the chopper had crashed with everyone on board killed.
