Growing up in three places, I saw women physically and verbally abuse their husbands - Man decries stereotyping of Nigerian men as abusers

A Nigerian man has said that he grew up witnessing mostly women being verbally and physically abusive to their husbands.

He stated this on X platform on Monday, May 20, while challenging the generalization of Nigerian men as abusers.

“They keep referring to Nigerian Man as abusive, but I’ve hardly come across a Nigerian Man that physical abuse their partner, maybe by coincidence I haven’t come across such Men. Growing up the three places my family lived, women has been the abusers, physically and verbally,” he wrote.

“I saw them hitting their husbands or abusing them verbally, only once did I see my neighbour physically abuse his wife and not only was he beaten by the men around, he was arrested and his wife was the one that came to bail him, till date I’ve never seen a man hit his wife

“Except on videos shared on social media. Where I stay currently, no form of abuse from the husbands or their wives (I can’t say for certain). Seems to me that a whole population of Nigerian men are judged by what a fraction of those men do.”
