Edo State Police Command has arrested three female suspects who stripped one Christabel Akhigbe, naked over alleged phone theft, filmed her and posted the video on social media.
The State Police Commissioner, CP Funsho Adegboye, disclosed this to newsmen while parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Benin City at the weekend.
The Commissioner said the suspects; Blessing Lucky, 15, Jennifer Eboigbe, 30, Iziegbe Ogbodu, 39, Naomi Ekhonetomwan, 17, and Lucky Endurance, 16, were arrested for indecent assault and cyberstalking.
According to the CP, the suspects accused the victim, Christabel of stealing an Android phone belonging to Blessing Lucky and invited her to return it which she did.
Adegboye said the women later lured Christabel into a room where they beat and stripped her naked.
They also threatened to apply pepper to her private parts and afterwards made the video go viral on social media.
CP Adegboye said that upon receiving the complaint, police operatives arrested the suspects.
The police boss warned members of the public not to take laws into their own hands, noting that those who would have been the complainants are now suspects in the case.
Adegboye added that the suspects will soon be charged in court.
Speaking with newsmen, one of the suspects, Jennifer Eboigbe, expressed remorse for what they did to the victim.
“My daughter, Blessing, came to me and said that her phone was stolen, and after some days, we retrieved the phone from Christabel. The girl begged me that they shouldn’t beat her but despite my plea, they went ahead and stripped her naked. I am ashamed of what they did because I am a mother,” she said.
